Ramanathan Sarathkumar, also known as R Sarathkumar, is an Indian politician, film producer, and actor who works in the Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi film industries. He was originally a bodybuilder and later a journalist. He made his acting debut with the Telugu movie Samajamlo Sthree in 1986. He made his debut in Tamil with the movie Kan Simittum Neram in 1988. R Sarathkumar first acted in negative roles and later played supporting roles before establishing himself as a lead actor in subsequent years, earning him the titles “Super Hero” and “Supreme Star” in Tamil cinema.

R Sarathkumar has acted in over 150 films and won two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and three Filmfare Awards South. He made his debut in Malayalam with the movie Pazhassi Raja in 2009, starring Mammootty. He debuted in Kannada with the movie Saarathi in 2012 and in Hindi with the movie Sarfira in 2024, Starring Akshay Kumar.

He was born on 14 July 1954 (age 71 years) to Ramanathan and Pushpaleela, a Tamil family in New Delhi, India. He has a brother, Sudarshan Ramanathan, and an elder sister, Mallika Kandaswamy. He studied at Raja Muthiah High School, Chennai, Central School, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, and St.Patrick’s Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School, Chennai. He did his higher studies at Loyola College, Chennai, and The New College, Chennai.

He married Chaya Devi in 1984, and the couple had two daughters, Varalaxmi, born in 1985, and Pooja, born in 1987. Varalaxmi is an actress in the South Indian film industry. R Sarathkumar and Chaya got divorced in 2000. He married actress Radhika in 2001. The couple has a son named Rahul, who was born in 2004. He also has a stepdaughter, Rayanne Hardy, who was born to his wife, Radhika, with her ex-husband, Richard Hardy, in 1992. She married cricketer Abhimanyu Mithun on 28 August 2016.
