Prabhu Deva is an Indian dance choreographer, film director, producer, and actor who has worked predominantly in the Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu film industries. He also appeared in a few Kannada and Malayalam films. He is the son of dance choreographer Mugur Sundar. He made his film acting debut with the Tamil movie Mouna Ragam (1986) as a boy playing a flute in the song “Panivizhum Iravu”. He made his debut as a lead actor in the Tamil movie Indhu (1994). He debuted in Telugu with the movie Love Story 1999 (1998) and in Kannada with the movie H2O (2002), starring Upendra.

Prabhu Deva’s successful films in the 1990s and early 2000s are Kaadhalan (1994), Love Birds (1996), Minsara Kanavu (1997), VIP (1997), Kaathala Kaathala (1998), Vanathai Pola (2000), Pennin Manathai Thottu (2000), Alli Thandha Vaanam (2001), and Engal Anna (2004). He debuted in Hindi with the movie Agni Varsha (2002), starring Jackie Shroff, Nagarjuna, and Raveena Tandon.

In 2005, Prabhu Deva made his directorial debut with the Telugu movie Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, starring Siddharth and Trisha. Then he directed the movies Pokkiri (2007), Shankar Dada Zindabad (2007), Wanted (2009), Rowdy Rathore (2012), R… Rajkumar (2013), and Singh is Bliing (2015). He debuted in Malayalam with the movie Urumi (2011), starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Arya, Genelia D’Souza, Nithya Menen, and Alexx O’Nell. In 2019, he was awarded Padma Shri for his contributions to the field of art and dance.

He was born on 03 April 1973 (age 53 years) in Mysore, Karnataka, India, to dance choreographer Mugur Sundar and Mahadevamma Sundar. Actors and choreographers Raju Sundaram and Nagendra Prasad are his brothers. He married Ramlath. They had three children, but their eldest son died of cancer in 2008, aged 13. They divorced in 2011. In May 2020, he married Himani, a Mumbai-based physiotherapist. He had a fourth child, a girl, on 13 June 2023.
