Anil Surinder Kapoor (Anil S Kapoor), also known as Anil Kapoor, is an Indian actor and producer who primarily works in Hindi films. He also appeared in Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, and English films. He is the son of film producer Surinder Kapoor. He made his film acting debut with the Hindi movie Hamare Tumhare (1979) in a minor role. He debuted in Telugu with the movie Vamsa Vruksham (1980) and in Kannada with the movie Pallavi Anu Pallavi (1983).

Anil Kapoor established himself as an actor with successful movies throughout the 1980s and 1990s, such as Woh 7 Din (1984), Meri Jung (1985), Saaheb (1985), Mohabbat (1985), Karma (1986), Mr. India (1987), Tezaab (1988), Ram Lakhan (1989), Rakhwala (1989), Kishen Kanhaiya (1990), Beta (1992), Laadla (1994), Judaai (1997), Virasat (1997), Deewana Mastana (1997), Biwi No.1 (1999), Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain (1999) and Taal (1999). He debuted in Marathi with the movie Hamaal De Dhamaal (1989).

Anil Kapoor made a cameo appearance in the Malayalam movie Chandralekha (1997), starring Mohanlal. He debuted in English with the movie Slumdog Millionaire (2008). Then Anil Kapoor appeared in the eighth season of the action series 24 in 2010 and the film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011).

He was born on 24 December 1956 (age 69 years) to film producer Surinder Kapoor and Nirmal Kapoor in Chembur, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Film producer Boney Kapoor and actor Sanjay Kapoor are his brothers, and he has a sister, Reena Kapoor. Actors Arjun Kapoor, Mohit Marwah, and Ranveer Singh are his nephews, and actresses Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor are his nieces. He did his schooling at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School, Chembur. He graduated from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.

Anil Kapoor married Sunita Bhavnani, a costume designer, in 1984. Bhavnani is the cousin of Ranveer Singh‘s mother. The couple has two daughters and a son. Elder daughter Sonam Kapoor (born 1985) is a former actress, younger daughter Rhea Kapoor (born 1987) is a film producer, and son Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor (born 1990) is an actor.
