Dileep

Gopalakrishnan Padmanabhan, better known by his stage name Dileep, is an Indian actor and producer who mainly works in the Malayalam film industry. He began his film career as an assistant director and worked under director Kamal in nine films, beginning with Vishnulokam in 1991. He obtained recognition after being cast in the television comedy series Comicola on Asianet and its successor Cinemala. He then produced and performed in the audio cassette series De Maveli Kombathu with Nadirshah, a successful sketch comedy, which was later turned into a television series on Asianet. He made his acting debut with a minor role in Kamal’s Ennodu Ishtam Koodamo in 1992.

He is well known for his roles in Sallapam (1996), Kalyana Sougandhikam (1996), Ee Puzhayum Kadannu (1996), Punjabi House (1998), Sundarakilladi (1998), Vismayam (1998), Chandranudikkunna Dikhil (1999), Joker (2000), Thenkasipattanam (2000), Ee Parakkum Thalika (2001), Ishtam (2001), Meesha Madhavan (2002), Kalyanaraman (2002), Kunjikkoonan (2002), C.I.D. Moosa (2003), Runway (2004), Vettam (2004), Perumazhakkalam (2004), Kochi Rajavu (2005), Pandippada (2005), Chanthupottu (2005), Vinodayathra (2007), Calcutta News (2008), Twenty:20 (2008), Bodyguard (2010), Vellaripravinte Changathi (2011), My Boss (2012), Life of Josutty (2015), and Ramaleela (2017). In 2003, he founded the film production company Graand Production, and the first film under this production house was C.I.D. Moosa (2003). He also owns the multiplex theatre D Cinemaas, and the restaurant chain Dhe Puttu.

He was born on 27 October 1967 (age 58 years) to Padmanabhan Pillai and Sarojam in Edavanakkad, Ernakulam, Kerala, India. He has a brother, Anoop, and a sister, Sabitha. He studied at Vidyadhiraja Vidyabavan English Medium Higher Secondary School, Aluva, Kerala. He did his higher studies at Union Christian College, Aluva, and Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam. He married actress Manju Warrier on 20 October 1998. Their daughter, Meenakshi, was born in 2000. The couple divorced on 31 January 2015. On 25 November 2016, he married actress Kavya Madhavan. The couple has a daughter, Mahalakshmi, born in 2018.
