Rani Mukerji is an Indian actress who mainly works in the Hindi film industry. She is the daughter of film director Ram Mukherjee and playback singer Krishna Mukherjee. She made her film acting debut with the Bengali film Biyer Phool in 1996, starring Prosenjit Chatterjee. In the same year, she debuted in Hindi with the movie Raja Ki Aayegi Baaraat. Her first successful movies are Ghulam (1998) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Then she appeared in the movies Saathiya (2002), Chalte Chalte (2003), Hum Tum (2004), Veer-Zaara (2004), Black (2005), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), No One Killed Jessica (2011), Talaash (2012), Mardaani (2014), Hichki (2018), Mardaani 2 (2019), Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway (2023), and Mardaani 3 (2026).

Rani Mukerji won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her roles in Saathiya (2003), Black (2006), and Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway (2024). She is involved in humanitarian causes and vocal about the issues faced by women and children. She featured as a talent judge for the 2009 reality show Dance Premier League.

She was born on 21 March 1978 (age 48 years) to film director Ram Mukherjee and playback singer Krishna Mukherjee in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. Her elder brother, Raja Mukherjee, is a film producer and director. Her maternal aunt, Debashree Roy, is a Bengali film actress, and her paternal second cousin, Kajol, is a Hindi film actress. She did her schooling at Maneckji Cooper High School, Juhu, Mumbai. She did a degree in Home Science from SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai. She married film director and producer Aditya Chopra at a private Bengali ceremony in Italy on 21 April 2014. They have a daughter, Adira.
