Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan, also known as Aamir Khan, is an Indian actor and filmmaker who works in the Hindi film industry. He is known as “Mr. Perfectionist” by the media. He is renowned for his work in a range of film genres, especially those that have a positive influence on society in India or overseas, or that address social issues like gender equality and education. He is the son of film producer Tahir Hussain. He made his acting debut with the Hindi movie Yaadon Ki Baaraat in 1973 as a child artist. His first role in a feature film as an adult was in the Hindi movie Holi (1984).

Aamir Khan’s leading role in the Hindi movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) marked the start of his full-time acting career. Among the many honors he has received are nine Filmfare Awards, four National Film Awards, and an AACTA Award. In 2003, the Indian government awarded him the Padma Shri, and in 2010, the Padma Bhushan. In 2017, the Chinese government bestowed upon him an honorary title.

In 1999, he founded Aamir Khan Productions, whose first film, Lagaan (2001), was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and earned him a National Film Award for Best Popular Film and two more Filmfare Awards (Best Actor and Best Film). He also created and hosted the television talk show Satyamev Jayate.

He was born on 14 March 1965 (age 61 years) to film producer Tahir Hussain and Zeenat Hussain in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. His family has roots in Herat, Afghanistan. He has two sisters, Farhat and Nikhat Khan, and a younger brother, Faisal Khan. He is the second of four siblings. He did his schooling at St. Anne’s High School, Mumbai, and Bombay Scottish School, Mumbai. He did his higher studies at Narsee Monjee College, Mumbai.

Aamir Khan married Reena Dutta on 18 April 1986. They have two children: a son named Junaid and a daughter, Ira. In December 2002, he filed for divorce, and Dutta took custody of both children. On 28 December 2005, he married filmmaker Kiran Rao. On 5 December 2011, they announced the birth of their son, Azad Rao Khan, through a surrogate mother. In July 2021, the couple announced their separation and stated they would raise their son, Azad, together. On 13 March 2025, He publicly introduced Gauri Spratt as his girlfriend at his 60th birthday party, confirming their 18-month relationship.¹
