Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja professionally known as Dhanush is an Indian actor, director, producer, playback singer, and lyricist who mainly works in the Tamil film industry. He has starred in more than 50 films during his career. He won four National Film Awards, fourteen SIIMA Awards, eight Filmfare Awards South, and a Filmfare Award. He made his acting debut with the Tamil movie Thulluvadho Ilamai in 2002 Directed by his father Kasthuri Raja.
The first Indian music video to reach over 100 million views on YouTube was his widely-liked bilingual song Why This Kolaveri Di from the romantic psychological thriller film 3 (2012) in 2011. He came to the Malayalam film industry with the movie Proprietors: Kammath & Kammath (2013) as Guest appearances. He made his Hindi movie debut with the movie Raanjhanaa in 2013. He debuted his English movie with the film The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir in 2018.
He was born on 28 July 1983 (age 41 years) to Tamil film director and producer, Kasthuri Raja, and Vijayalakshmi in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Film director and actor Selvaraghavan is his elder brother. He also has two sisters named Vimala Geetha and Karthiga Karthik. He studied at Thai Sathya Matriculation School, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, St Johns Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and JRK Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He completed his Bachelor of Computer Application as a distance learner at Madurai Kamaraj University. He married Aishwarya, actor Rajinikanth‘s elder daughter on 18 November 2004. They have two sons, Yatra and Linga. The couple announced their separation on 17 January 2022.
